Our 8th Grade ELA Teacher and School-Based Teacher Leader, Ms. Clark, was one of sixty teachers in Philadelphia awarded the Lindback Award for Distinguished Teachers. We are proud to have the best educators in Philadelphia teaching in our school!


MYA Beats the Odds!

MYA was one of just 3 district schools awarded the Beat the Odds award for accelerating student progress in schools that have diverse populations and educating large numbers of children living in poverty. MYA was a selected for this honor in 2021 based on a 9-year longitudinal study that showed significant growth and achievement when compared to schools in the city and nation.


We have an Award-Winning Sports Program!

Coach Doctry was awarded Middle School Coach of the Year in 2024!

MYA boasts a championship track team and more sport program participation such as golf, soccer, boys & girls basketball, girls softball, boys & girls volleyball, and baseball.

We offer Instrumental Music & Drumline

We have a strong instrumental music program which includes a string ensemble, a wind ensemble, and a concert band.

In 2023, MYA was awarded a grant through the Pincus Foundation to establish a middle school drumline at MYA. Our drumline students have performed across the city and always bring the fun to our schoolwide pep rallies!


External Partnerships enrich our extracurricular experiences!

Our partnership with the University of Pennsylvania enables us to provide on-site tutoring for our students.

SPARK brings together schools, businesses and individuals to create career exploration and self-discovery experiences for middle school students. SPARK is open to all students in 7th Grade at MYA.

The Episcopal Community Services offers out of school programming including boxing club, chess, and cooking experiences!

Our Partnership with Agatston Urban Nutrition Initiative offers in-school nutrition education and after school cooking club!
